The Chalkboard Players were a group of adults who performed original shows for children of all ages in Sonoma County, CA. Shows were developed as a collaborative effort of the (extremely talented) company members during the rehearsal process and then toured to performance spaces throughout the North Bay area. Chalkboard started as a way to connect with young theatre audiences and spark an interest in the art of live performance as a whole. Our mission was to entertain children in order to instill a life long love and appreciation of live performance and the community, fostered with these shared experiences.

After the success of our Free Lunch Site Fun Tour in 2015, we expanded our focus to include trauma informed, strengths-based, healing art education through school groups, after school groups and free creative arts summer day camps. We served the community, after the trauma of the 2017 wild fires, that destroyed over 5,000 homes in the county, with artists residencies in over 20 public schools. In 2018 we implemented an original curriculum for "The Drama Spectrum," a group which specializes in teaching improvisational acting skills to kids on the autism spectrum, or with similar social or emotional challenges. In April of 2019, the students and teachers of "The Drama Spectrum" performed Once I Was Very, Very Scared for the City of Santa Rosa's Earth Day celebration.

The Chalkboard Players continued to work in school based groups until Spring of 2020 when schools were moved to virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
